For Mother’s Day, my husband tackled the most important details: chocolates for my sweet tooth, a rose bouquet because of my floral obsession, a beautifully handwritten card that made me cry, because he knows how sentimental I am, and a much needed, relaxing day at the spa for the two of us.
I have never been to a spa, nor has hubby. I have had manicures before, I have had my eyebrows threaded and I have had a facial, but I have never experienced any pampering like I did at the Lakeside Spa. Jay booked us the deluxe package which includes: wine and lunch (you can choose between chicken, steak, or shrimp), a 60 minute couples massage, and a 60 minute facial. We arrived 15 minutes early to get a feel for what we were about to experience. Lynn, the owner gave us a tour of her lovely spa. She told us that what is now Lakeside Spa, used to be a vacation home that was passed down to her from her parents. The view from the spa was beautiful. The deck overlooked the still, peaceful Middlefield Lake. It was a nice change from the busy city life were used to seeing. The setting couldn’t have been more calming.
The rest of the Spa had a rustic, but modern feel. The decor was lovely and refreshing. The high windows, sheer curtains that allowed so much light into the rooms, the plants in every corner, the comfortable couches, and rocking chairs, it all felt so at home. I couldn’t get over the high ceilings, or how inviting the room was.
As Lynn prepared our lunch, she gave us each a delicious glass of red wine (you can choose white if you’d like) and hubby and I wandered onto the deck, sat on the cushion filled chairs and took in the beautiful lake and all of the fresh air.
Lynn served us lunch at 12pm. I had the steak salad and Jay chose the chicken salad. To be honest, we were hesitant about what the food would be like. Its usually a hit or miss with salads and we didn’t know what to expect. However, we were surprised at how delicious our lunch was! As it turns out, Lynn used to be a chef, and she’s darn great at it! Our salads consisted of juicy grape tomatoes, romaine lettuce, shredded purple cabbage, and carrots, croutons, cranberries, and chicken/steak. My steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I also had a bite of hubbies chicken and it was delicious as well. The salad was served with a deliciously light dressing.
Jay and I ate our lunch in the divining area. It overlooked the beautiful deck and lake, it felt like we were seated on a patio at a luxurious restaurant.
After we finished our meals, Jay and I walked back out onto the deck and relaxed in the lounge chairs. We talked and enjoyed each other’s company while taking in the warmth of the sun. Jay and I love our daughter so very much, but it was wonderful escaping for a while and being in a calm, and quiet environment. The fresh air felt wonderful, and we both had a chance to connect again. Time away is needed to maintain a healthy relationship and I enjoy every minute of our mini getaways.
Around 1pm Yovonne and Shelby walked us to our room downstairs. There were two massage tables. I opted to receive the facial first while hubby received the massage. During my facial, Shelby washed and exfoliated my skin, massaged my face, and gave me a hot towel treatment; the hot towel was doing its thing, Shelby massaged my arms, hands, legs, and feet. She finished it off with a wonderfully scented face cream. In fact, all of the products smelled heavenly. They all had a floral, fresh, garden scent to them.
Yovonne was my massage therapist and she was amazing! Hubby and I both agreed that we walked out of there as better version/ of ourselves, relaxed versions to be exact! She did a great job in relieving shoulder tension and back pain. The massage concluded with a much needed scalp massage. After getting dressed, Shelby and Yovonne greeted us at the door with refreshingly cold glasses of water. I learned that after a massage you should drink a lot of fluids because it helps flush toxins out of the body!
Our couples day at Lakeside Spa was amazing and one for the books. Lynn was so hospitable, the salads were delicious, and so was the wine. Most importantly I enjoyed spending time alone with my husband. If you live in Connecticut or are close to the area, you should visit Lakeside Spa in Middlefield, CT. You won’t regret it!
